The Imperium of Man

Hellhound "It's not that they were cowards. No, these men had deservedly earned a reputation as dogged soldiers in countless battles across this sector of the Galaxy. But the Ash Rats had never faced Tyranids before, only heard the accounts passed on from survivors of the Tyranid massacres. The vid-images they'd seen..."

I have the following Imperial armies:
  • Blood Angels - 1500 points
  • Dark Angels - 1500 points
  • Imperial Guard - 1500 points (The 7th Tyrellian Guard, aka "The Ash Rats")
  • Inquisition (Ordo Malleus) - A full Daemonhunters army including Grey Knights
  • Inquisition (Ordo Hereticus) - Battle Sisters and preachers
  • Inquisition (Ordo Xenos) - Xenos Inquisitor and Deathwatch Kill-Team
The Emperor vs Horus!

A recent project was to create rules and stats for refighting the most famous encounter in Warhammer 40,000 history - nothing less than the titanic clash of the titans, between The Emperor himself and the fallen Warmaster Horus! Follow the link for full rules and stats to play this famous battle.

Drop Pods

Another recent Imperial project was do-it-yourself construction of Space Marine Drop Pods for my Dark Angels army, to my own design. Both of these are now being used by my son in his Golden Eagles Space Marine army. You can see one in action in the Tau vs. Space Marines battle report and there are a couple of photos of them in the Games Workshop Gallery. I have published a full Drop Pods Construction Guide together with Drop Pods Design Templates in the Downloads section.

Space Marines

Latest! Read my Codex Dark Angels review.

I recently updated my Space Marine armies following the release of the new edition Codex: Space Marines. Read my summary of what's new and cool in Codex: Space Marines. I added a second Baal Predator to my Blood Angels, and started a brand new Dark Angels army, including two Drop Pods.

I took my Blood Angels army to the Taneloth Warhammer 40,000 Campaign Weekend way back in 2000 at Games Workshop HQ in Nottingham. Now that's an amazing place. See a photo of the HQ in the Games Workshop Gallery Archive.

Photos of my Tyrellian Guard and Blood Angels in action against the Xenos can be seen in the Games Workshop Gallery Archive. You can read the battle reports for these battles in the Battle Reports page.

Daemonhunters

Sitting on the sidelines is my Daemonhunters army (i.e. Ordo Malleus Inquisition). I was building this army for the Conflict Tournament in June 2003, but alas I didn't finish it so I took Necrons instead.

The Alien

Tyranid Warrior "Passed from unit to unit, the stories must have been exaggerated. They told of a sea of multi-limbed monsters, all-consuming, remorseless, voracious, some the size of tanks, some bigger. Even the little ones had a mouth full of razors and could strip the flesh off a man in seconds."

Ahhh, Tyranids. Aren't they great? I came into the hobby through Space Hulk, and so I have always seen the Genestealers and Tyranids as the main alien threat to the Imperium. However, in recent years they have been joined by two new alien threats. The Necrons in particular have caught my imagination, but the Tau are also irresistable.

I have the following Alien armies:

  • Tyranids - 1500 points
  • Necrons - 1500 points
  • Tau - 1500 points

I took the Tau to battle in Conflict Bristol 2005. See some photos from Conflict and some posed Tau photos in the Games Workshop Gallery.

I took the Necrons to battle in Conflict Bristol 2003, led by The Deceiver. See some photos from Conflict and other Necron photos in the Games Workshop Gallery. The gallery photos also have some conversion notes on how I made my Immortals and Flayed Ones for a fraction of the price of the metal models.

My Tyranid battle photos have now been relegated to the Gallery Archive. I need to update my army and get some games in, following the release of the new version of Codex Tyranids. Read my personal review of Codex Tyranids.

There are battle reports for Tyranids, Necrons and Tau in the Battle Reports page.

And see the Army Rosters page for various Necron army lists, including the army I took to Conflict 2003.

The Heretic

I guess my Genestealer Cult army fits in here. This army dates back to Space Hulk days, but is still a favourite. The army was created to a list sent to me by Jervis Johnson, which I tinkered with. The original list has since been published in the Citadel Journal.

You can see my Cult army in action at the BeachHead event in Bournemouth in the Gallery Archive.

The army includes Necromunda gangers and elements from the Ash Rats, as well as a horde of Genestealers. There are also a number of Genestealer-human hybrids (classic models) and the army is led by a Genestealer Patriarch. The Patriarch also sees service as a mutant Genestealer in my Tyranid army.

The Daemon

Chaos Space Marine Inevitably I have an army of Chaos Space Marines. I have been collecting these on and off for a number of years but only recently finished a basic 1000 points force. It was the release of Codex: Daemonhunters and the Summer 2003 Eye of Terror campaign that inspired me to complete the army.

I have found it very hard to create the theme for this army. The problem with Chaos is that there are so many different armies you can build from the one Codex. Some aspects are brilliant (e.g. Obliterators) and some are not that good at all (e.g. Noise Marines).

What I have settled on is Undivided, with a leaning towards Khorne, but a hint of the Machine God and a hint of Slaanesh (!) Actually my newest models definitely lean towards Slaanesh, and I have added a Keeper of Secrets greater daemon. On the painting table are a squad of Daemonettes. I just couldn't resist these.
