![]() NECRONS vs. ELDAR 1000pts January 18th 2007 Eldar Turn 2
![]() The Necrons have just moved slightly to keep the Wraithguard at a distance Adam: After another battering from the Necrons, when the dust settled I had only lost 2 Dark Reapers, the luck had started changing (as it does). Again I cast Fortune, but this time on the Dire Avenger squad, and finally I managed to Doom the Necron Warrior squad on my right (near the Harlequins). I moved the rallied Dire Avengers squad boldly forward towards the Immortals on the left with the phrase "They are going to die anyway, so they might as well do something before they do". [Mike: Thank you Adam, I am particularly fond of that quote] Adam: Then I again moved the Wraithguard forward closely followed by the Dire Avenger squad and Farseer. The Harlequins ran forward toward the Necron Warrior squad, if I made a good Fleet roll I could make combat… During shooting the Dark Reapers targeted and destroyed one of the Heavy Destroyers (about time). Then the Dire Avengers opened up on the unsuspecting Necron Destroyers. I had a choice between normal fire and Blade Storm, I opted for normal fire. 18 shots were fired in total. 16 Hit! Yes 16. Then I proceeded to cause around 7 wounds. The Destroyers promptly made all their saving throws bar one (which next turn passed its 'I’ll be back!' roll!). I looked at this in disbelief… are the Necrons really this tough? [Mike: er, yeah] The other 5 Dire Avengers fired on the Immortals causing a massive 1 casualty (who made his 'I’ll be back!' roll – I’m seeing a pattern...). Close combat, all I needed to be sure that I made it into combat was roll anything but a 1 for Fleet for my Harlequins. Guess what I rolled… a 1! Luckily I made combat with all but 3 anyway due to ignoring Difficult Terrain and my inability to judge distances… Now this was a moment I had been waiting for, the first time I was testing the Harlequins. In all the excitement and the (lack of time) combined with the Spanish language Eldar Codex I have, I couldn’t find anything showing that Harlequins have 4 attacks each in the charge, so I used 3 on the charge, still this was 30 attacks, hitting on 3’s with a re-roll to wound, so it wasn’t that bad. Well suffice to say that around three Necrons died due to rending and I also sent a few more to their grave with normal attacks. Then I awaited the attacks back, there weren’t many and in the end the Necrons inflicted 1 wound, which was saved. Then combat resolution, Ld 10! for everything?? Even with this the Necrons broke and were run down by the Harlequins who slaughtered them as they turned and ran. I used my consolidate move to position them behind the building. I was now feeling a lot better about how the battle was going… Necrons Turn 3
![]() The Harlequins charge and decimate a squad of Necron Warriors Mike:Hoping that enemy are not in range to assault…is a dangerous assumption! Now, a smart player would have learned the lesson from my decimated Warriors squad and done something drastic to deal with the Harlequins. Me, however, I just backed away my second squad of Warriors the inadequate normal 6” move distance and hoped for the best. But of course the Harlequins get "fleet of pussy-foot" and "free runners" or whatever over difficult terrain, plus of course the charge bonus, which means they can vault from one end of the hobby store to the other in a Necron clock cycle. Bang goes my second Warriors squad. We were under some pressure to finish the game as we had come straight from work and the shop owner wanted to see his family sometime, so decisions at this point were made under some stress. Just like real battle. Well, it was time to show off my wargear. Not sure is this was the right time or place, but I cast a dark shadow over the battlefield and my Lord and his bodyguard somehow materialised in the middle of the table behind the main Eldar host. They blasted away with their Gauss Blasters and Staff of Light and thinned the enemy right down. [Adam: They destroyed 7 out of 8 fortuned Dire Avengers – ignoring their armour save :(] Eldar Turn 3
![]() The Necron Elite suddenly appear from nowhere behind the Eldar battle line! Adam: Ahhhh…. Just when I thought things were going my way… I couldn’t believe that the Immortals just blew away my fortuned Dire Avengers! Their weaponry completely ignored the Dire Avengers armour save… So what’s left: a single 5 man Dire Avenger squad stranded on the left hand side, on the right 10 rampaging Harlequins and in the centre 1 Wraithguard with Warlock and 1 Farseer coupled with a Dire Avenger Exarch… Well firsts things first, I fortuned the Farseer and Wraithguard, and doomed the remaining Necron Warrior squad. The Dires on the left tried to consolidate toward the centre, and since they had nothing to shoot at, fleet of foot-ed. The Harlequins rolled a 6 for Fleet and bypassed the Difficult Terrain, again running straight towards the Necron warriors. The combined force of the Farseer, Wraithguard, Exarch and Warlock shooting provoked 0 casualties on the Immortals, which they then charged and during close combat proceeded to kill an amazing 0 more…. Then the Necrons fought back killing both the Exarch and the remaining Wraithguard. The only other unit to go into combat was the 10 strong Harlequins who crashed into the Necrons killing around 3 in total. The Necrons fought back causing 2 wounds, both of which were saved (that was lucky). The Necrons didn’t break, and the combat was tied. After the game was over, left standing was a shell of the starting army, with only the Harlequins showing their true worth.
