Back to 2006-2007 news page

2 December 2005
  • Drop Pod design templates added to the Downloads page!
  • Added new Site Map (see also new link at the foot of the navigation bar)
  • Added permanent Painting Table link to the News page (see above)

28 November 2005
  • Added new article DIY Drop Pods ("How to build Space Marine Drop Pods")! I don't yet have the design template ready, but I should be able to post this on the site within a few days.
  • Streamlined the site directory structure (should not be visible to visitors)
  • Split up the News page, because it's getting rather big! (see 2002-2003)

11 November 2005
Added a personal review of the new version of Codex Tyranids.

Thank you to those guys out there in cyber land who have sent e-mail feedback. Following that, I have been shamed into progressing some static historical projects like Samurai Skirmish. For a sneak peak, see my new Painting Table page.

Apologies! It's SIX MONTHS since I last updated the website. Reason: I have had a big life change and moved out of my home. Nothing has happened on the hobby front since June. HOWEVER, I still have a backlog of material, and I am getting my new life together. I am going to begin a major sale of wargaming figures, books, etc. to consolidate my collection. But I will still be painting models and playing games!
  • In June I took my Tau to Bristol Conflict 2005. I won one game, lost one game and drew one game. Pretty average! See the photos in my Conflict 2005 Gallery.
  • I've been painting Arachnids for the Starship Troopers miniatures game (see my updated Links page).
  • I've started an Army Rosters page where I will list all my GW army rosters
  • And I have been progressing my 'secret' games project... read the Blood Gods Teaser.

24 April 2005
Just back from Salute! I woke up this morning, walked into my study and said "Oh my God, what have I bought?"

21 April 2005

I've got my ticket for Bristol Conflict 2005. I hope to be able to take my all new Dark Angels army and show off my new scratchbuilt Drop Pods! If that's not ready in time, it could be either my modified Blood Angels army, now with two Baal Predators, or Necrons or Tau. I've abandoned the Daemonhunters army for this tournament because I'm concerned it's not competitive enough.

I've taken out a Harbinger subscription and *SHOCK* not renewed my White Dwarf subscription! No sooner had I done this than GW's shares dropped 30%! I've already apologised to them, but it has to be said that GW now has serious competition with WarGods, Urban War and Ragnarok, among others. Looking forward to soaking it all up at Salute 2005 next week.

My BIG project at the moment is a brand new and original game design inspired by all the cool, modern sci-fi/horror/fantasy movies. I have written my most professional ruleset yet and have enlisted the help of an illustrator and a graphic designer. Watch this space. So hot I can't even tell you the name!!

8 January 2005

I have just finished extensive changes to the website:
Changed all Warlord! references to small battles; Behind-the-scenes tidying up of the HTML code (for those who may be interested, I gave up on Netscape Composer and now use Web Notepad. This is a great little shareware tool. I am now using stylesheets too, which are fantastic); Created Historical Gallery Index page; I've also had to archive old photos to make room for new ones, so all the galleries have been re-organised.

Latest gaming news:
  • I've just finished scratchbuilding two Space Marine Drop Pods, and they are awesome! Watch this space!
  • I've finished converting and painting my second Baal Predator (my first purchase on eBay)
  • On the painting table right now are W40K objective markers
  • Watched AVP movie recently - great stuff and VERY gameable. Now looking forward to Blade Trinity and Resident Evil: Apocalypse!

I've got LOTS of new material to add to the website, inc. Drop Pod design templates and construction notes (unless you see them in White Dwarf - I kid you not!), photos of Necrons, Tau, Chaos & Blood Angels. I missed out on Conflict 2004 because of other commitments, but I plan to be there in 2005, probably with a Daemonhunters army.

14 November 2004
I have just reworked my army lists for Blood Angels and Dark Angels, following the release of the new edition of Codex Space Marines. Find out why I am bidding on eBay for a classic Baal Predator! Read all about what's new and cool in the new edition Codex Space Marines.

IMPORTANT Please bookmark www.smallbattles.co.uk, because this is the permanent new name for the site and will forward to wherever it is physically located. If you have already bookmarked the site at the Freeserve or Wanadoo address, please edit your bookmark or favorites.

Website News
  • After 3 years of waiting, I've finally got broadband! (Ok so the line's dropped twice and I've only had it 2 days, but hey it's progress)
  • Website is physically moving from Wanadoo to Yahoo!
  • I have registered the domain name www.smallbattles.co.uk for the website, so expect to see the name change from Warlord! to small battles.
  • Check the October and May news below because I've only just got around to updating the site

5 October 2004
APOLOGIES! - it's been a lonnng time since I've updated the website. So what happened? Work! Computer crash! Trying to upgrade my paltry ISDN connection to broadband! Work! Doing a Triathlon (and raising money for Muscle Help Foundation)! Planning a career change!

Anyway, the good news:
  1. I've got myself a WYSIWYG tool to edit my HTML, so I should be able to develop the website much faster (I'm using Netscape 7.2 Composer right now);
  2. I'm preparing to use a proper domain name, so check back shortly for news.
  3. BT have just changed their policy so now I can have a broadband connection (it's a long story).
But the really important news is...
  • The new Warhammer 40,000is released!
  • I have finished my 1000 points Tau army!
  • Check the May entry below for loads of new material!

2 May 2004
Last week was Salute 2004 in London, the biggest wargame show in the country. I picked up some creative ideas and spent some money. Read my Salute 2004 Review. And yesterday I went to Weymouth Fisticuffs, which is a great little show. See pictures from Salute in the Historical Gallery.

I've played a few games of W40K at Battlescar club in Bournemouth, including a couple of games of Kill-Team. I'm having a lot of success with Necrons.

I hesitated on my Warhammer Empire army, so instead... I'm building a Bretonnian army! Read the background For My Liege. Read the Bretonnain Army Roster.

New & recent projects...

  • Forge World Grey Knights MkIV Dreadnought
  • Ordo Hereticus Codex Witchhunters
  • Rackham Hybrid
  • Bloodbath - contemporary gothic skirmish
  • Bretonnians

15 January 2004

I have added a section for links to Friends Websites.

3 January 2004

I have finished my 1000 points Chaos Space Marinesarmy. I can't believe it's taken so many years to finish and looks so small!

I have just discovered new magazine Harbinger at issue 4. This magazine mainly caters for non-Games Workshop fantasy miniatures wargaming. On the strength of this, I also discovered Battlescar shop in Bournemouth and bought amazing new game Hybrid from French company Rackham. This needs a whole new section of the website. Watch this space!

I'm hoping to make new friends and play more games at the Battlescar club. I've already got my first game lined up for next week against Steve's Imperial Guard.

I saw The Return Of The King the other day. Very spectacular battle scenes and it has been a real struggle to fight the urge to invest in yet another game system. The GW game is superb but I have decided to play the same system with historical Samurai instead, as a long-term project.
