Well, the Daemon Seed campaign is in full swing! In celebration,
the front page image this month shows the Grey Knights in
action in the second battle of the campaign, doing what they
do best.
Other news in brief:
- Apocalypse was the big release of the last month, and fortunately I came to my senses before wasting sixty quid on a Baneblade.
While GW go big, I say go small! We had a great game of Combat Patrol (see the battle report).
- Rumours are already floating around the web about the next release of Warhammer 40,000. It only seems like yesterday that
the last (fourth) edition was released!

I'm back in the UK! Last weekend I was at Colours 2007 in Newbury.
I managed to make a net profit after selling some old bits and pieces.
My only major purchases were additions to my AT-43 collection,
including Death Dealer Tac Arms (UNA) and the Therian army book.
See the Colours 2007 gallery.
My main project at the moment is a new Warhammer 40,000 campaign!
It's called Daemon Seed and it pits Daemonhunters against
renegade Tau under Commander Farsight. I got fed up playing
competitive style games and I have been wanting to play a campaign for
a long time. Hopefully I can report how we get on through the website.
See the downloads page for the complete
campaign pack.
I also recently bought the new Dark Angels codex. This contains
some major changes to Space Marines in general. Read my
Codex Dark Angels review.
Other news in brief:
- I have tidied up the Links page to make it a bit less random, in
particular I have included all the major English language hobby
magazines (there are quite a few now).
- I will be selling more stuff and trying to rationalise my
collection down to a few armies and periods that I can concentrate on.
Hopefully that means I can push on with my historical projects and get
some games in!
- Finally, I'm looking forward to seeing the Apocalypse supplement.
With my streamlined number of armies, I should have room for a super
heavy tank! :-)

News in brief:
-
I'm continuing to progress my 15mm Seven Years War project.
I just finished some Prussian artillery and was so pleased with the results I just had to post them on the site.
See the Painting Table for photos and description.
-
My rules By Fife & Drum are also progressing very well.
I have put a six-page sampler on the downloads page which includes Base Sizes, Stands and Units.
-
I have two other projects in progress: one is my own fantasy/sci-fi/horror setting codenamed Bloodbath
and the other is a set of generic 'heroic historical' rules - hopefully more on these projects through the website in future.
-
My interest in Warhammer 40,000 has been waning a bit (finally, after 15 years!),
and my interest in Warhammer has completely dropped off (too 'plasticky').
However, Games Workshop may redeem themselves with the new, much anticipated,
Apocalypse supplement being launched in the Autumn/Fall. I'm sure I won't be able to resist the lure of a plastic Baneblade kit!
Despite this, I think I will be streamlining my W40K armies to make room for AT-43.
-
My Kensei Samurai skirmish rules have been translated into French!
See Kensei Francaise.
-
On a personal note, I am leaving Madrid and returning to the UK at the end of this month.
So, another big move and re-organisation, and a sad adios to Adam and the chicos at Quimera.

|
Check out the HUGE new gallery fom the Quimera Warhammer 40,000 torneo 23 June!
I didn't play, but I was there with my camera.
On the historicals front, I have added an article Wargaming the Spanish Civil War.
Plus I am very slowly progressing my Seven Years War models. See the Painting Table.
Other news:
OK, Necrons are out, Chaos is in!
I recently visited my storage unit in UK and swapped my Necron army for my Chaos Space Marines army.
So I'm looking forward to some new battles against my Eldar opponent (Adam, aka "Smokedog").
Not great timing really, because Games Workshop will be updating the codex in September and releasing new models.
Check out the new Possessed on WarSeer!

Phew! This month I have made a major update of the site design, with both structural and cosmetic changes.
I think I have changed every single file, and there are over 500! In particular, note that
Battles and Galleries have now been promoted to the main menu.
FAQ has been demoted to the lower menu and Home can now be accessed by clicking on the
site banner in the top left corner.
I have been spending more time on the website than wargaming recently, but then my leg has been in plaster after an accident playing
football in the park :-) I still managed to get in a game of W40K using my newly expanded Necron army.
Finally, I have added a review of the full rules of AT-43 in my new Game Reviews page.

| 18 April 2007 |
I'm VERY busy on the hobby front at the moment, generating more material than I have time to put on the website.
And I'm planning a major re-design of the site!
I am progressing historical projects (mainly Seven Years War),
playing lots of games of W40K (Necrons vs Eldar), and even playing games
of AT-43 and Star Wars! Lots of new stuff:
Future plans:
- Major site design change (currently in planning)
- Seven Years War rules (currently in progress)
- More & better quality photos (I have a new digital camera)
- More battle reports, possibly a Necron Tactica article
- Probably more AT-43 material, including a re-appraisal
- Probably some material on wargaming the Spanish Civil War (I'm reading Beevor's Battle for Spain at the moment)
- Possibly rules for Star Wars (an upgrade to the Wizards of the Coast collectable miniatures game)
Other news:
- I recently saw the awesome and fantastic new movie 300 based on the battle of Thermopylae,
and naturally I am now trying to resist buying metal Greeks to upgrade my plastics for the Greek-Persian War
(see my rules in the downloads page)
- Sadly, it looks like I won't make it to Salute this year - I just can't justify the flight costs from Madrid
- My head is full of so many thoughts about the miniatures wargaming hobby in general, I'm thinking of
creating a "rants" page to get it out of my system. Themes include What's wrong with Warhammer 40,000? and
Pre-painted miniatures versus paint-it-yourself miniatures.

Site changes and other news:
- Added more new army rosters for Tau, Blood Angels and Orks!
- I made a very small correction to my Vietnam rules Tour of Duty (thank you Adam)
- I have made small cosmetic improvements throughout the site
- Two days ago my Necrons were victorious again against one of the lesser species (Eldar, phut!).
And this time The Deceiver sent a Lord to lead the army.
Battle report with photos to follow soon!
I must admit after trying the disappointing AT-43, and struggling with my Seven Years War project,
with appalling lack of commercial support, it was an enjoyable relief to have a game of W40K.
I'm grateful again to the Excalibur shop in Madrid for providing the table and terrain.

Site changes and other news:
- Added new army rosters for Necrons and Vampire Counts and converted them all to PDF!
- All of the rules downloads are also now in PDF form!
- I've recently bought and played AT-43, the new sci-fi game from Rackham.
Read my AT-43 review and see some game photos in the Fantasy/Sci-Fi Gallery.
- I have expanded and re-designed the historical page
- And meanwhile, I'm currently working on a set of rules for the Seven Years War!
|
| 5 Nov 2006 |
News in brief:
- See the Painting Table page for my new project: the Seven Years War (1756-1763) in 15mm!
- I have removed the For Sale link, because all my unsold wargaming models are temporarily in storage
- I have accepted an invitation to join the Warhammer TopListed ring - see the banner on the main page.
- I have also added Google Ads to the main page - hopefully some wargame related ads will appear.
- I have updated and redesigned the Links page...
- Battlescar link has been removed - this business has closed down (and the guy still has stuff of mine!)
- Added a link to a French site La Communauté Francophone du Wargame
(I had a nice email asking to translate my Kensei rules into French)
- Added a section for wargaming magazines, inc. Spanish magazines such as WarModel
- I´ve moved 2004-2005 news onto a separate page (see link at the foot of this page).
- New historical gallery of a Napoleonic wargame from the Weymouth show!
- Updated Games Workshop galleries with new photos! (Tyranids, Necrons, Tau)
- New pictorial W40K battle report!
- I've made a small change to the Fantasy/Sci-Fi page to include work-in-progress project ideas
- General news - check out the Spanish film Alatriste if you are interested in the Sixteenth/Seventeenth Century.
I couldn´t understand barely a word, but I enjoyed the action and period atmosphere
(although a few too many people get their throats cut in this film!)

My main news this month is that I have just moved to Madrid, Spain. ¡Viva España!
I have been selling a lot of wargaming things, and the rest is going into storage.
I don't know what will happen to my wargaming hobby. We will have to wait and see.
However, before I went to Spain I developed a new game for the Greek-Persian Wars,
based on a lovely article in issue 1 of Battlegames magazine.
The rules are available to download from the Downloads page.
Buy a few boxes of Italeri or Zvezda plastics and start a new period! (see the Painting Table)

|
Following the growth of the non-GW fantasy hobby,
I have renamed the "Creative" page as the Fantasy/Sci-Fi page.
This page will grow to reflect my particular interests in this genre,
although it is nearly empty at the moment. I have also re-organised the galleries,
created a Wargame Show Reviews Page and retired the Airsoft page.
Other news in brief:
- Added Salute 2006 gallery!
- Added Starship Troopers gallery!
- I've taken a pause in my eBay sales, but I expect to resume soon (keep checking the For Sale page)
- I recently re-built my Lizardmen army and it is now ready to paint.
However, I think I may be finally moving away from Games Workshop (shock!)
- I have been reading Wargames Illustrated and Battlegames magazines
- My latest project is what I call Red vs Blue Classical Ancients (see the Painting Table)
Plenty more material to add in the future! Watch this space.

News update:
- I have just come back from Salute in London, buzzing with ideas as usual. Read my personal review of Salute 2006.
- My grand eBay sale continues! Every week I sell a little bit more. See the For Sale page.
- I have found time for working on my Cityfight Imperial Guard army. See the Painting Table page.
- I recently played a great W40K game with my Tau against my son's Golden Eagles Space Marines.
Now he is nearly twelve years old and producing annoyingly good armies very quickly!
Coming soon...new look Battle Report for this game.
- I have bought my ticket to Bristol Carnage. See you there in June!
- Finally, I have updated the Links page.

| 12 February 2006 |
I am having a BIG SALE of wargaming models, armies, books, etc.
I have already sold a number of items on eBay, including my Blood Angels dreadnought and a couple of board wargames.
At the time of writing I have my 1000 points Chaos Space Marine army for sale on eBay ("The Fast And The Furious").
Why? Because I am moving home, possibly moving country, and I have got to get rid of a lot of belongings.
But in any case I have far too much stuff, and after the sale hopefully I can concentrate on fewer armies.
Please take a look in case there is anything of interest. I will gradually put everything on eBay, but if you want to get in first, make me an offer.
- See my new For Sale page for a list of items for sale (still in progress).
- See what I am currently selling on eBay
(my eBay name is "openhandaardvark").
